DARTS: Indirect Taxes

Русский » English «

Food

Russians spend more than 40% of their income on food, with meat and bread each accounting for about 10% of total expenditure. The food share is much higher than in most Western countries, and does not include home production of food — which is much more important in Russia than in the West. Poorer families spend even more of their income on food. Currently, Value Added Tax (VAT) is levied on all food items.
